DHT is a hormone that is believed to be the main cause of
genetic hair loss in men and women. DHT is formed when an
enzyme called 5 alpha reductase interacts with testosterone.
Although DHT mostly occurs in men, it can be present in
women with hormone and testosterone imbalances.
5 Alpha Reductase
5 Alpha Reductase is an enzyme which converts testosterone
to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is the hormone that triggers
Androgenetic Alopecia in individuals who are genetically
susceptible. There are two types of 5AR: Type 1 and Type
2. Finasteride works on Type 2, while dutasteride works
on both types.
